Open Channel Flood Mapping & Planning

Acute investigations to help mitigate the risk of flooding

<

Civica has undertaken various studies to evaluate the flooding potential along open channels and waterways. As a key component of these studies, modeling tools have been used to provide floodplain mapping and also as the basis for recommendations for flood mitigation strategies.

Our trained field technicians completely assess the natural environment including aquatic and terrestrial habitats. Detailed geodetic survey of channel and surrounding areas, and, existing conditions are modelled using Civica’s own state-of-the-art VO4 and VHSWMM modeling software tools. Then, integrated models are analyzed with GIS tools to identify addresses of flood-prone buildings, flood depth and areal extent of flooding, and, roads and buildings susceptible to flooding.

Once the potential flooding areas have been identified, simulated and evaluated flood mitigation alternatives such as permeable pavement, sub-surface storage, soak-away pits, and hydraulic structure of flood-prone buildings are studied. In addition, Civica also provides recommended optimal flood mitigation strategies based on detailed evaluation criteria.
