BASEMENT FLOODING REMEDIATION & WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT MASTER PLAN CLASS EA STUDY AREA 34

This study was undertaken to develop a remediation strategy following a Schedule B, Class EA process in response to surface and basement flooding which has occurred due to relatively extreme rainfall events. An extensive field inspection including visual downspout surveys and GPS surveys of catch basins and low-lying areas was completed to inform InfoWorks ICM model for the 1,100-ha area. Civica is one of the first consultants to complete a single integrated model, using the City’s recent Modelling Guidelines, that include sanitary, storm, combined, and overland systems. During the project, Civica worked with the City and other consultants to define the additional Combined Modelling Guideline requirements to model a combined system.  The project delivered monitoring and modelling outputs, as well as several technical memorandums that summarized data background review, flow and rainfall monitoring, preliminary assessment of the system, modelling results, water quality assessment, alternative and preferred solution development and conceptual design. Civica attended and supported public information centre (PIC) events, and coordination with multiple stakeholders was crucial to the success of this project.
